The MagSafe Charger is certified for Qi2 and Qi charging, so it can be used to wirelessly charge your iPhone 8 or later, as well as AirPods models with a wireless charging case.
The magnetic alignment experience only applies to IP 12, IP 13, IP 14, IP 15 and compatible IP 16 models.
